Skeptics

A skeptic is one who questions what others propose as facts. In the subject of spirituality, as you might guess, skepticism abounds! Everything from religions to UFO's, it's not hard to find a plethora of skeptics. In fact in nearly all areas of life, even concerning proven science facts, there are still skeptics. People that are religious are often skeptical of science, and people scientifically minded are quite often skeptical of religious beliefs.

It seems like a never ending battle between believers and non-believers, people questioning everything, and though some may feel it is a "bad" thing, skepticism sometimes breeds knowledge. It is our innate nature to question everything, and when we stop, we close our minds and our own personal knowledge base stops growing significantly.

Spirit And Sky SKR would not be complete without a large section devoted to the ever hated skeptic. In a category like spirituality, skepticism "must" be included in order to see both sides of the story, after all would it be fair to go to court for a crime and "not" be able to hear both prosecution as well as defense?

Everyone has some degree of skepticism inside them. Even the most fundamental people in their varying religions seldom "totally" agree with every single word of their particular doctrine. Whether they admit it or not, they too are a skeptic.

Disagreeing is a sign of free will and free thinking.

Woe to us as a whole of humanity if any set system of beliefs take control and bans anything that contradicts or disagrees with the teachings handed down to them. Freedom is essential for humanity to obtain enlightenment, after all, if not for the skeptics, would we not all still be worshiping the sun, moon and stars like our caveman ancestors once did?

Regardless what any faith or religion tells you, it is "not" a sin to question everything.

Christians that denounce the skeptic must realize that in their own history, the roman god worshipers or "skeptics", who doubted the truthfulness of the "multiple Gods" doctrines, are largely responsible for the cessation of the "throwing to the lions" and other oppressive behaviors the Christians suffered. Also, no religion would be able to obtain any converts at all if not for skepticism. Think about it, only when you can get someone to question their own religion, or lack of it, can you hope to convert them to yours. So in a way, religious growth depends on skepticism.

So be kind to the questioning skeptic, they are the walking question marks that help our society as a whole to grow and change, be it for better or worse, our world owes its skeptics a huge debt. And whether you like it or not, the skeptic is here to stay...
